ANDREAS G. TZAKIS, MD, PhD, FACS
Andreas Tzakis, MD, PhD, FACS, serves as Director of the Miami Transplant Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
As Director of the Miami Transplant Institute, Dr. Tzakis directs a program that performs more than 200 life-saving surgeries each year and has achieved an unusually high degree of organ survival. A pioneer in multi-organ transplant, Dr. Tzakis was one of the first surgeons to transplant the intestine and has been instrumental in making the School of Medicine home to one of the most active intestine and multi-visceral transplant programs in the United States.
Dr. Tzakis received his medical and Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Athens School of Medicine in Athens, Greece, He served an internship and residency in surgery at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, New York and then completed his residency in surgery at the State University of New York, Stony Brook School of Medicine, Stony Brook, New York. Dr. Tzakis completed a fellowship in transplantation surgery at the University of Pittsburg in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is board certified in General Surgery.
