Anthony M. D'Alessandro, M.D.
Dr. D'Alessandro received his BS from Gannon University in 1976 and his MD from Hahnemann University in 1981. He continued his education as a resident in surgery, research fellow, and transplant fellow at the University of Wisconsin.
Dr. D'Alessandro is Professor of Surgery, Director of Multiorgan Transplantation, Director of Pediatric Liver Transplantation, and Executive Director of the Organ Procurement Organization at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. D'Alessandro is board certified in Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. He is a member of numerous professional societies including American Society of Transplant Surgeons, The Transplantation Society, International Society for Organ Preservation, American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, Society of University Surgeons, Central Surgical Association, and American Surgical Association. He has been actively involved with the United Network for Organ Sharing, having served on many committees and as the Region 7 Councillor.
He was appointed to the National Advisory Allergy and Infectious Diseases Council by HSS Secretary Thompson in January 2003 and was a faculty member and co-chair of the HHS Organ Donation Breakthrough Collaborative and the Organ Transplant Breakthrough Collaborative. His research in the field of transplantation has resulted in over 200 publications in such journals as Transplantation, Transplantation Proceedings, Transplantation Reviews, Surgery, and Annals of Surgery. Dr. D'Alessandro's research focuses on liver and small bowel preservation for transplantation.
