John R. Lake, MD
John R. Lake, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis. He also is the Director of the Division of Gastroenterology, and Hepatology. He is the Director of the Liver Transplantation Program and Executive Medical Director for Solid Organ Transplantation at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Dr Lake received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School, after which he completed an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine, and a fellowship in Gastroenterology, all at the University of California at San Francisco. He joined the faculty at UCSF where he helped establish the liver transplantation program. He moved to the University of Minnesota in 1998.
Dr Lake is a past president of the American Society of Transplantation. He is the Chair of the Liver and Intestinal Committee of the United Network for Organ Sharing. He is a Deputy Editor for the American Journal of Transplantation. He is on the editorial boards of Liver Transplantation, Nature Clinical Practice: Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Transplantation Proceedings. He is a co-author of the textbook Comprehensive Clinical Hepatology. Dr Lake has published over 200 scientific papers and book chapters on topics ranging from hepatitis C in liver transplant recipients to changes in quality of life after liver transplantation among adults.
