Dr Hallvard Holdaas
Hallvard Holdaas is Consultant in Nephrology at the National Hospital of Oslo, Norway. He has received his medical degree form the University of Oslo.
He was research fellow at Experimental Medical Research, Ullevaal Hospital, Oslo, Norway, and had a fellowship for 1 year at University of Iowa College of Medicine, US. He has published more than 140 scientific papers in the field of renal physiology, the effect of antihypertensive agents on renal function/albuminuria, and the lipid lowering effects of statins. He was the chairman of an international multicentre study (SOLAR) of the effect of fluvastatin in newly transplanted patients.
He is a member of the executive committee in 2 large ongoing lipid lowering trials in patients with reduced renal function and in patients on dialysis (SHARP and AURORA). He chaired the ALERT trial examining the cardiovascular and renal effects of fluvastatin in renal transplant patients. He is also chairing an international multicentre trial examining different immunosuppressive regimes (ASCERTAIN) and a member of the SC for the CENTRAL trial. His present research interest is focused on renal transplant recipients.
Dr Trond Jenssen
Trond Jenssen holds a position as a consultant at the Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology, Rikshospitalet University Hospital, Oslo. The hospital performs more than 250 renal transplantations every year. Dr. Jenssen also holds a position as Professor of Medicine at the University Hospital of Tromsoe, Norway.
He has published more than 130 papers related to diabetes, renal disease and hypertension. He has chaired the Board of Clinical Science at the Norwegian Research Council, he is a former president of the Norwegian Society of Nephrology, and also the Scandinavian Society for the Study of Diabetes. He has chaired the Medical Board of the Norwegian Diabetes Association, and is at present the Medical Advisor of the Association. At present he also holds a coordination position in the Nordic Network of Islet Transplantation.
